Bull Allen on Playing for the Hurricanes

I will never forget the early days as a Hurricane or Wellington Hurricanes as we were known back then, they were special times for all involved.

When we got together for the first time at the police college in Porirua it was an exciting but nervous time as we didn’t really know what to expect.

But as soon as we started training it was clear that the Hurricanes were going to be a very special side. From the players to the support we received, it just took off.

Being the first Hurricanes Captain was a great honour and without doubt one of the highlights of my rugby career was when we hit the turf in Palmy for that first professional game.

Although we couldn’t knock over the Blues that night it was a wonderful occasion and such a privilege to have been involved in the very first professional rugby game in this country wearing the Hurricanes uniform.

Great days never to be forgotten.
